The slow death of pubs

With as many as 17 pubs a week closing, soon enough they will be few and far between. Many if the existing ones apart from ones highly used by rural communities will be no more.
Lots of the ones that do stay open will be almost unrecognisable as what we perceive to be traditional.
Serving food now is so all more important bit bring extra wage costs and more demand on staff management.
Many factors see this decline the top ones I believe are. A reluctance to reduce rent and business rates, the ever increasing minimum wage, new potential customers habits are changing to more in line with central Europeans and discounting from larger pub chains.
Health & Hygiene along with compliance is obviously a good thing but it also comes at a great cost of time and money. Many owners/ tenants spend more time on that than actually ensuring the patrons are happy. This reducing the quality of experience. Many get stuck in an office when they should be behind the bar.

Pubs and retail would all do it if they could.
Anything that doesn’t involve staff handling cash makes life easier.
Obviously some .... food stalls etc ... are often cash only as they don’t want HMRC handling cash that they are taking.
Impressed that 4 people walk into a pub and not one has a debit card.
Wise to save your cash to pay for your coming tv licence bill.

One pub that deserves to fold is the Rose and Crown Stoke Newington. Went in there a couple of months ago with my son and his mates, ordered a round and when I handed cash to them was told it was card only. Immediately walked out leaving 4 pints on the bar. Stupid fuckers.

Loads closed down in North Essex, ones that seemingly were doing ok. Go back 15 years and there were absolutely loads of pubs that have now sadly gone.

The fiddlers was lively and the Hinds head went through many transitions. Always loved that pub.

used to be a cheap way to meet up with your mates.
now it's not cheap and most youth are in constant virtual correspondence with their mates anyway.

Two pubs in my immediate vacancy, on 18th, one 19th century, which still is little great to me.
No idea how they are doing but then I do not buy any drink there.

Barge aground ha I remember being in there and a CS canister came flying in. I think we stopped going there after that.

My local is a paddy pub, cash only, sport on all day day, lock ins. Always busy and rammed when any sport
Makes a fuckin fortune.
That gaff will be going for years.

There seems to often be a proper effort made to "take in" some of the local history etc as well.
Same can't really be said for Beefeater or Stonehouse pubs.
Don't get the argument about them undercutting smaller locals either, unless you're in the south-east they're not always the cheapest.
